Be a Growing Leader

Leaders must be sure they are always growing. Continual growth is a key to effective leadership, and God is the key to growth. There are, however, certain things that leaders can do to activate the growth process.

Acts 20:32, “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.”

One of the keys to a leaders’ growth is God’s Word. In this passage, Paul was going away. He could not stay to chase away the false teachers and the temptations that would flood the people of Antioch. There is no doubt in my mind that Paul had a caring heart. He loved God’s people. In fact, the preceding verse tells us that Paul continued to warn them with tears night and day. I am sure that the Ephesian elders like those of Galatia and Corinth, remembered the tears of Paul.

Ministry is often like a roller coaster. There are a lot of ups and downs. In the early days of Reformers Unanimous, Steve Curington would sit in meetings and weep for directors across America who had become complacent or compromising and eventually quit the ministry. His motivation to get every director to the national conference came from this desire. The desire to help each and every director still beats within the breast of those in Rockford.

Dr. Kingsbury has been spending a lot of time with the church and staff talking about the proper way sanctification is to be approached in the life of every believer. In our text, Paul talks about having an inheritance among all them that are sanctified. I don’t know about you, but that’s the kind of influence that I want to have in my community with the years I have left in serving our Lord.

The Word of God will be unsheathed by some tremendous men of God, desiring to build you up. This Word of God is a strengthening power available to build us up. This Word of God is a sanctifying power, working to set us apart. This Word of Grace has a securing power, guaranteeing an inheritance.

Brethren, be faithful to your local church, where the word of God is preached. Be faithful to starting every day reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on the Word of God. If these things have slipped in your lives, restart them today!
