It’s All About Him

Colossians 3:16-17, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

Every nation, tribe, kindred, land, and people need to know that it is all about HIM! Recently, I saw those words in many languages and it struck my heart as I live in a country that reflects more and more that it is not about Him…

Colossians was written by the apostle Paul, to teach us the supremacy of Christ. He is all we need! He is all sufficient. His Word is sufficient. His people who are dependent upon His Spirit will reflect these truths in the life they live. When we are experiencing the life of Christ lived through us, by the power of the Holy Spirit in us, we can bring Light to a darkened world!

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another…” explains our position to the Word of God. We need to meditate daily on its truths. Nine years ago, I started the practice of using the “It’s Personal” Daily Journal written by Steve Curington and Reformers Unanimous. My personal walk with the Lord has been incredibly sweet as one or two verses are chosen daily and dissected & defined, as to understand the words and make them applicable to my life for that day. We are commanded to daily search the scriptures. Psalm 1 and Joshua 1, both remind us of the importance and success that is associated with meditating on the scriptures daily. Do you have a verse chosen for today? I have found that when I spend time in His word, it drives me to spend time on my knees.

“…Admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord”. There will be a song in our heart (meditations) when you walk in the Spirit and flood yourself with the scriptures. If there is one thing I added to the daily journal over these years, it would be to choose a song for my heart each day. I often say that next to your Bible, a good, old-fashioned, songbook/hymnal is the most important book to have near you daily. The man or woman who walks with God has found his/her destination! We were created to worship the Creator. So many people today worship the creature or something creatures have made. When we have the right song in our heart that glorifies God, the world looks beyond us, to Him. It’s not about me, it’s not about you, it’s all about Him.

Thirdly, when one spends time developing a love relationship with the Savoiur, and the song in his heart magnifies the Savoiur, everything He says and does, will glorify his Master. My wife and I are in Lancaster, California. We both commented on the helpfulness and friendliness of several workers in different organizations. One was Best Buy, then an Olive Garden restaurant(my wife’s favorite,) and also the hotel in which we are staying. I have to tell you the workers of those establishments should be proud of the reflection those employees gave to the organization. So it is with Christians.

We are to be a reflection of all that He is. We are to give the right impression of Him. This is the meaning of glorify God. 1Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” As Bro. Curington taught for 14 years, glorify God means to make God look good!

Thought provoking questions for today:

1. Do you have a scheduled time and place to dive into the scriptures today?
2. Are you going to choose one or more to personalize and meditate on today?
3. What is the song in your heart today?
4. Will you let the world determine your song or your Master?
5. Have you planned out some things you will do today to give the right opinion to others of Christ?

The next time you’re feeling prideful, remember it’s not about me, it’s not about you, it’s all about HIM! (Thank you, Mark Gray, for writing the song that has stuck with me!)

It’s not about us, it’s not about them,
It’s not about you or me, it’s all about Him,
Oh, the next time you’re feeling prideful,
Remember pride’s a sin,
It’s not about us, it’s all about Him

It’s not about me, it’s not about you,
It’s not about who you are or what you can do,
It’s all about serving the Lord, seeking His face,
And praising Him for His mercy and grace,
It’s not us, it’s all about Him,

When you finally see, it’s not about you,
Then you will find what Jesus Christ can do,
He might call you to preach, or to a foreign field,
It’s amazing what God can do if you will just yield,
It’s not us, it’s All About Him!!!
